Situated on a hillside overlooking the town of Corton, Corton-Charlemagne is one of the finest of Burgundy's grand cru vineyards. The name is said to have derived from when Charlemagne's wife Hildegard insisted it be planted with white grapes to avoid red wine stains on his beard.
